YOUNG TEAM BRING NEW LIFE TO YOUTH LIVE
A delighted team of Liverpool young people are celebrating the release of the latest edition of Youth Live magazine, following a massive post-summer makeover.
The eighth issue of the quarterly publication, by and for young people, circulates to Liverpool schools, youth organisations and public libraries across Merseyside and has welcomed new writers, new photographers, new editors and a new designer.
With funding from the City of Liverpool the makeover began with a photography project run in May where young people had their chance to develop their photography skills with the help of professional photographers. Some of the pictures taken in Issue 8 include a round-up of events over the summer, and other pictures will feature in a photography exhibition to take place in St George’s Hall during December. More young people will be working during the October half term to produce photography for Issue 9 due out shortly before the exhibition takes place.
And with the help of Youth Opportunity Funding, members of the team, led by Youth Live Picture Editor, David Williams, 15, are continuing to redevelop the publication by recruiting more budding writers and photographers, as well as working with the new designer, Barry Myles.
David added: “Working on Youth Live is giving me so many great opportunities as a photographer, and the magazine is getting the breath of fresh air it so needed, with all the new people and changes going on. Barry is to be congratulated for all his talent and hard work in bringing us the new look we were after.”
The magazine is also developing its enterprise coverage features thanks to Liverpool Vision funding and the latest issue also carries some hard-hitting poetry by young people in Croxteth and Norris Green, after groups of young people worked over the Summer with Slambaster 2008 Winner, 19 year-old Terence Whinnett.
Following the departure of Editor, Jemma Wark for the University of Leeds, mystery surrounds the identity of the new editors, so far known only as the “Ference Dynasty” who say they are “committed to continuing to develop Youth Live into the vibrant youth publication that Liverpool young people deserve.”
